Looking North to Knoxville: UT in a Football Perspective
I’ll readily admit, it’s been a truly entertaining week. When it comes to an offensive play caller, you always want someone that isn’t caught up in the moment. You want a mentality that looks to the future, considers the proverbial “ying and yang” of every move, and makes judgments based on all those considerations. If Kiffin’s “off the field” decision making skills are indicative of the decisions he’ll make as a head coach and offensive play-caller, the UT offense doesn’t fit the bill of “something to be feared.”
ANDREW BONE: Alabama turns focus to 2010 class
The University of Alabama did well with in-state prospects for the class of 2009, and the Tide already looks good with several of the top in-state players for the class of 2010. It’s a toss-up for the No. 1 player in the state for the class of 2010 with many contenders like Jarrick Williams, safety from Blount High in Prichard; Craig Sanders, defensive end from Ariton High; Demarcus Milliner, cornerback from Stanhope Elmore High in Millbrook; and Jeremy Richardson, wide receiver from Springville High.
What Does This Recruiting Class Mean To Alabama Football?
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009, I saw something I had never seen before. Nick Saban was happy and grinning. He had just finished his second top recruiting class in a row, reeling in more top talent and leaving in his wake a trail of coaches left pulling their hair out and wondering, “How does he keep doing this?” He walked to the podium acknowledging the accolades with a walk and swagger that reminded me of a John Wayne swagger after leaving the bar after beating up the bad guys.
Don’t Overlook These SEC Sleeper Signees
Alabama — LB Jonathan Atchison: Atchison committed fairly early to Auburn, but Alabama head coach Nick Saban never gave up on Atchison, who later switched his commitment to the Tide. Florida made a late push for Atchison as well, but it was too late. He won’t receive the same notoriety of fellow linebacker signees Nico Johnson and Tana Patrick, but Atchison can play. That’s why Alabama, Auburn and Florida fought so hard to sign him.
Recruiting only fuels the rivalry
National Signing Day last week provided two noticeable results: One, the LSU football program had a stupendous recruiting effort. Two, so did Alabama’s Nick Saban, the Tigers’ former head coach. Not that it should matter what Saban did, given all the jewels LSU landed. Still in all, it’s hard to dismiss what happened in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Saban came into his old state and pulled out two plums.
Kiffin, Vols self-report 2 secondary recruiting violations
So can we expect Lane Kiffin to call a press conference to announce that he is turning himself in for NCAA violations? The amusing part about Tennessee self-reporting two secondary recruiting violations is that the school had already turned themselves in when Kiffin made his silly, juvenile comments about Florida’s cheating. And you thought Mike Price’s tenure at Alabama got off to a rocky start?
