Saban urges students to value integrity
Self-discipline is painful, but without it, there is always the pain of disappointment, Nick Saban told a crowd of students Wednesday. “You’ll never accomplish what you’re capable of if you don’t have discipline,” Saban told students at the final event of Capstone Creed Week at the University of Alabama.

Rivals Mailbag
Most observers project Ole Miss as a top-10 caliber team next season. No argument here. But can the Rebels be counted on to finish ahead of both Alabama and LSU? History says no. Alabama is going to be rugged again. LSU figures to bounce back from this past season’s substandard showing. Both have questions at quarterback. And both have to play at Ole Miss this season. Next season may be different, but I’d probably pick Alabama to win the West again. And I think Florida repeats as SEC champion.

Does Alabama’s Recruiting Class Guarantee a National Title?
It has happened again. Alabama is crowned with the No. 1 recruiting class for the second consecutive year. I think this because Alabama has one of the best rising coaches in the country along with an amazing coaching staff. [Alabama has] a great athletic department that just approved an expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium, which will increase not only the seating chart to over 101,000, but will also increase the already hostile environment Tuscaloosa has. There are several reasons why I think that they will win the National Championship in five years, but to be honest, even if we would not have gotten this recruiting class, I think that we still would have won a national title within the next five years.

Chris Smelley not cleared to play for Tide baseball this season after all
A few weeks after UA sent confirmation that transferring South Carolina quarterback Chris Smelley had been granted a Southeastern Conference waiver that allowed him to play baseball this season, it now looks like Smelley won’t be eligible after all in the eyes of the NCAA. Other similar articles:

ESPN already setting football games for TV
We’re barely a month removed from the BCS Championship Game but, yes, TV games for ’09 are already set. ESPN today announced an initial schedule of 15 games (which will be expanded) it will televise next season. And among the SEC games already on the slate.
