
Auburn’s Gene Chizik Has a Plan?
After meeting with a group of reporters this week, newly hired Auburn football coach Gene Chizik has announced he “has a plan for retaking the state of Alabama” in terms of recruiting. Over the past two years, the Auburn program has found itself virtually locked out of the recruits that both the Auburn and Alabama staffs had a mutual interest in. Overall, both schools have heavily recruited more than 30 players in common, with Alabama coming out on the winning end in all but a scarce few.
Smith discusses Sugar Bowl suspension
With NFL millions at stake, former University of Alabama All-American offensive tackle Andre Smith on Thursday finally addressed his suspension from the Sugar Bowl. Speaking to reporters at the start of the NFL Combine, Smith accepted responsibility for his “bad decision,” although he stopped short of explaining his actual infraction. That candidness was necessary since Smith — considered one of the top prospects in the 2009 NFL Draft Class — must show coaches and team executives that his character is not a concern. Old Bryant-Denny scoreboard catches fire… no one is injured
So, you know that construction is about to begin on Bryant-Denny Stadium and that expansion is in the works, right? And you know that that old scoreboard is the first to go. But did you know it caught fire today? University of Alabama spokeswoman Cathy Andreen said a few minutes ago that while that jumbotron was being taken down, some sparks from welding equipment fell into an air filter and started a fire.
