Rashad Johnson, on his increased size at the NFL Combine: “I haven’t lost any of speed.”
Let’s see what’s up with former Alabama safety and two-year captain Rashad Johnson. He showed up at the Combine bulked up and ready to go.
Q: How do you feel a little bit heavier. Have you been able to maintain your quickness and agility?
RS: Yeah, I felt well. That was what was so special about it. They really helped me be able to put the weight in all the right places and not lose any my speed, any of my quickness on the field.
Coffee’s workout creates a buzz
Glen Coffee had one of the better overall performances in the combine workouts, posting several marks that put him among the top 10 running backs. He displayed his speed with a 4.58 40-yard dash (ninth among running backs), had a broad jump of 10 feet, 1 inch (fifth), bench pressed 225 pounds 24 times (seventh) and had a 36-inch vertical jump (sixth). ‘My numbers were pretty good,’ Coffee said. ‘But I wasn’t happy with my 40 time, so I’ll run that again come March 11 at the pro day.’
Andre Smith Is “The Biggest Loser”
I spent much of the weekend watching the NFL Combine on the NFL Network. It it didn’t get any crazier than Alabama offensive tackle Andre Smith leaving the Combine without telling anyone. Figure Smith would have pulled in a guaranteed $30 million as the No. 1 pick of this year’s draft. This morning, Peter King told “The Dan Patrick Show” that, as of now, Smith is down to the bottom of the first round. If it goes down like this, Smith would have lost $23.8 million. ANDREW BONE: Out-of-state elite attend Alabama’s Junior Day
The University of Alabama held its second Junior Day this past weekend with several elite prospects from out-of-state in attendance. Numerous in-state recruits visited, but it was players from the surrounding areas who headlined the group. Markeith Ambles, Scout.com National 100 wide receiver from Henry County High School in McDonough, Ga., is one of the most sought after prospects in the nation. Ambles has more than 20 scholarship offers. ‘I loved my visit to Alabama,’ said Ambles. ‘Everything about the trip was great.’
