No place like home for Bama signees
Alabama had the smallest senior class in America this past year, but that didn’t stop Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban. With just nine departing seniors, it would be impossible to duplicate the success of the 2008 recruiting class that was ranked No. 1 in America. Impossible for most people, but not Saban, who promptly went out and signed 29 players to earn Rivals’ No. 1 ranking for the second consecutive year. “We’re certainly pleased with the quality of the class we were able to attract,” Saban said. CECIL HURT: Kiffin’s mouth writes a check Vols can’t cash
There seem to have been two major, somewhat disastrous topics of discussion over the past week. One has been the economy. The other has been Lane Kiffin, the new coach at Tennessee. Kiffin, for those college football fans who have been living under a rock for the past four days, grabbed national headlines with rhetoric in which he accused Urban Meyer, the head coach of Florida, of “cheating” in recruiting. In the process, he also threw down the gauntlet in front of Nick Saban at Alabama. Other similar articles:
Crimson Tide fans demand more seats
‘If you build it, they will come.’ Well, here in Tuscaloosa, the members of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees have all but verbalized another line that should become a classic: ‘If they come, we will build it.’ On Friday, the board approved yet another expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium — an additional 9,000 seats in the south end zone that would enlarge the capacity from 92,138 to well more than 101,000.
LSU has become a recruiting powerhouse
The lifeblood of any college football team is the ability to recruit the best players to your campus. Since Nick Saban was named head coach of the Tigers in late December 1999, the Tigers have built a huge levee across the state and kept most of the top talent in Louisiana.
Roll Tide!
