Alabama Recruiting Class of 2009 Swings Talent Disparity in Tide’s Favor
We’ve all seen the statement. Whether it was something personally said or it was a point made by a rival fans over the last decade, Alabama fans have faced the reality that the talent fielded by teams in the SEC, and the NCAA as a whole, meant the Tide wasn’t considered at an advantage. In fact, it was a disparity that was easily recognized not only on the scoreboard, but in how many of those players leaving programs were of the ability to make it to the next level: playing on Sundays. Is the playing field about to be slanted to favor Bama across the board?

CHRIS RATTEY: Signing Day was a perfect media storm
Last Wednesday was a magical day that confirmed my place in Tuscaloosa. The many professional moves I’ve made through the last 13 years, from New Hampshire to Boston to Tampa to ‘Bama, led me to a desolate highway in northern Louisiana. We were in LSU country, on the hunt for Alabama signees, shoulder deep in National Signing Day waters. Over the next 18 hours, I was a part of a media perfect storm that resulted in my favorite day in the newspaper industry.

Crimson Tide report: Inside slant
Nick Saban eats, drinks and sleeps recruiting. And for the second consecutive year it paid off as Alabama pulled in one of the top recruiting classes in the nation. “Everybody thought since we got the top class last year it wouldn’t be possible to get the same result this year,” said St. Paul quarterback A.J. McCarron, the only quarterback signed in this class. “But it just shows if you get the right group of guys like coach Saban does, that we’re going to have a special future.”

Crimson Tide report: Notes, quotes
“Just think about it. I’m going to be on (the video game) NCAA 2010 next year. My brothers (are) going to get to play with me (on the game). That’s going to be crazy.” — Alabama running back signee Trent Richardson.

Crimson Tide report: Strategy and personnel
All eyes will be on quarterback this spring, with the graduation of the schools’ all-time passing leader, John Parker Wilson. The competition will be between junior Greg McElroy, who played as Wilson’s back-up last year, and Star Jackson, who sat out last year as a redshirt. They will try to solidify a spot to hold off incoming freshman A.J. McCarron of Mobile, the only quarterback signed in this recruiting class.

Roll Tide!
