Stepping Up: The Top Five Freshmen to Make an Impact at Alabama In 2009
Alright, I know its is still March and more people are worried about March Madness, but I have decided to write about the top five freshmen to make an imediate impact at Alabama in 2009. I will start with No. 5 and work my way down to No. 1
Recruiting: Hall of Famer Joe Montana, son drop in on UA practice
It was not just another day, nor just another spring practice for the University of Alabama football team. Square in the middle at the 50-yard line were two NFL Pro Football Hall of Famers. Baltimore Ravens Ozzie Newsome, a former All-American for the Crimson Tide, looked right at home, but the guy standing next to him wearing blue jeans and a gray T-shirt took a little getting used to. NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana picked quite a day to drop by with his son, Nick, for a recruiting visit, making Friday anything but ordinary. Also see: Practice Report: “Hey look, it’s Joe”
Ravens’ Newsome says Smith can prove himself
Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome thinks Alabama left tackle Andre Smith can recover from his pre-draft mishaps to have a productive career in the NFL. “I don’t think that’s a bad reflection on Andre,” Newsome said. “He made a bad decision leaving the (NFL) combine (early). … Can you recover from a bad decision? Yes, because at the end of the day, we’ve got to put the tape on. And when you put the tape on, you see Andre Smith.”
The Big Breakdown: Breaking Down Each Regular Season Game for Alabama
I know that it’s still March, and in the future, I might write another one—except with different opinions. It’s just that I cannot wait for the season to start, so this is kind of a really early breakdown of the schedule. I will give the team, date of the game, and the difficulty level of the game based on a 1-10 scale.
SEC and Big 10 College Football Coaches for the Ages
Unlike a number of SEC football fans, I always enjoy watching Big 10 football in the fall. Why? Because it reminds me of SEC football prior to the influence of Steve Spurrier and his pass-happy Gator offense of the 1990s. Preferring smash mouth football, great defenses, and special teams, I don’t care for football that resembles a pinball game (That’s a pre-video entertainment device for all youngsters).
Alabama Crimson Tide’s Five Most Important Games in 2009
At the University of Alabama the sport of football is raised to an even higher level. Football is everything. This is so prevalent that head coach Nick Saban recently called out the fanbase and in an indirect way asked them to calm down and not get too caught up in the high expectations for the upcoming season. With less than a month before Alabama’s A-day game (A for alumni, not Alabama), it is time to pin-point the Crimson Tide’s five most important games for the 2009 season.
Committee to consider contracts of football assistant coaches
The Compensation Committee of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees is scheduled to take up the contracts of most of head football coach Nick Saban’s coaching and support staff on Monday. The committee will consider the employment contracts of new assistant coaches James Willis and Sal Sunseri as well as Michael Vollmar, UA’s new associate athletic director for football. The contract for administrative assistant Linda Leoni will also be considered.
