Tide staff to tinker with several positions at first spring scrimmage
Alabama will hold the first of three scrimmages today, giving Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban and his staff an opportunity to see several potential starters in game-type situations for the first time this spring. “I think the most important thing you always look for in the first scrimmage is how a guy competes,” Saban said. “If they’ve got the right psychological disposition toward the fight that you like to see in a good competitor.  Other similar articles:

Sharrief one of group vying for Johnson’s old safety job
Ali Sharrief has simple goals. A former key reserve in the defensive backfield, he is suddenly staring at an opportunity to start. All-Southeastern Conference safety Rashad Johnson is headed to the NFL, leaving a gaping hole at safety. Sharrief has motives beyond just attempting to claim the position. “I don’t want to let anybody down,” said Sharrief.

Former Tide signee Chris Lett fights for a role at South Alabama
Chris Lett is trying to make a go of it at South Alabama after a diabetic condition ended his playing days early with the Crimson Tide. He left the squad for good last spring and was ready to give up the sport. “It was kind of me and the trainers, we sat down and talked and figured out what was best. We didn’t want to keep going and have something big end up happening,” Lett said. “It felt pretty bad. I wanted to be a part of the team.”
