Saban focuses on righting some wrongs from 2008
As far as Alabama coach Nick Saban is concerned, the best way to avoid mistakes is to work on weaknesses. Over and over and over in practice. “I talked to the players about the fact that we’ve got to play to our strengths,” Saban said, “but we also have to improve in areas that might be considered weaknesses.”
Crimson Tide offense needs improvement
Alabama senior receiver Mike McCoy has been through too many scrimmages to try to sugarcoat what happened to his offense Friday afternoon. “We pretty much got it handed to us,” McCoy said. The Crimson Tide’s offensive players arrived at the final week of spring practice humbled and anxious to improve before into Saturday’s A-Day game. By most accounts, a defense that rated among the nation’s best last season and returned nine starters has been well ahead this spring. Tide builds toward A-Day
The Alabama Crimson Tide returned to the practice field Tuesday for a two-hour workout in full pads on the Drew-Thomas Practice Fields.
It was the 13th practice session of the spring as the Tide builds toward the A-Day Game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. ESPN will televise the game. “It means lot to have that game experience, and it’s great to have our fans come out and support us,” linebacker Cory Reamer said following Tuesday’s workout. “It is always good to have them (the fans) come out when it’s not the regular season, and I’m sure they enjoy it as much as we do.”
A-Day Notes: Tyrone Prothro scheduled to join Saturday’s 7-on-7 game
Former Alabama receiver Tyrone Prothro is among the players tentatively scheduled to be a part of Saturday’s 7-on-7 alumni flag football game, per UA sports information. The game will be held at noon before the 2 p.m. A-Day Game at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Prothro’s football career was tragically ended by a gruesome leg injury in 2005. He stayed in classes at UA and graduated last summer.
RT Drew Davis, on the offensive line: “We went back to the drawing board and hit the field hard.”
It’s no secret that Alabama’s offensive line is a work in progress. After last season’s road-grading machine lost three of its key parts, it’s no surprise either. It may take some time to get to the point the Crimson Tide got to last year by the SEC title game. And after the running backs averaged slightly more than one yard per carry in the second scrimmage, that point was hammered home.
Roll Tide!
