Tide Tidbits – April 2, 2009

Tide’s McElroy takes the lead
Alabama’s first spring scrimmage, in the eyes of coach Nick Saban, “actually went a little better than I anticipated.” Junior quarterback Greg McElroy was a big reason. Battling to win the job vacated by John Parker Wilson, McElroy threw four touchdown passes Wednesday and distanced himself from his competitors. “Greg’s ahead of everyone,” Saban said. “But like I said, he has more experience in the offense, he has more knowledge, he has more experience and I think that’s an advantage to him. Veterans do well in Tide’s first scrimmage
This just in from Alabama’s first scrimmage: Rolando McClain is good. So is Dont’a Hightower. And Julio Jones. Crimson Tide veterans apparently welcomed a break from the monotony of spring practice and took their skills to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Wednesday. “We had some guys that I thought played extremely well today,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. “Ro had a really good scrimmage with lots of tackles, a couple of interceptions, a couple of sacks. We got some turnovers on defense — which was probably good — and, for the most part, both first units did fairly well.” Other similar articles:

Alabama secures its fourth recruiting commitment: Prattville’s Nick Perry
Alabama received its fourth recruiting commitment today when Prattville High safety Nick Perry pledged to sign with the Crimson Tide. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder chose UA over offers from Stanford, Auburn, and LSU. He is not yet rated by Scout.com or Rivals.com. “I feel real comfortable with Alabama,” Perry told BamaOnLine.com. “I love the way their defense plays and how aggressive and physical they are.” Other similar articles:

Blog Wars: SIU vs. BCS
Unlike my cowardly coworkers, I say bring on the best. I think the Salukis should take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Many college football fans are not fond of Nick Saban and I know there is just something about his face that makes me want to punch him square in the nose. So instead of me hitting him in the face, I think Dale Lennon and Co. should show the Tide how football is played. If Appalachian State can beat then-No. 4 Michigan, then there is no reason we can’t shock the world and roll the Tide.

Roll Tide!
