Alabama’s Nick Saban applauds Bengals’ selection of Andre Smith
Any hard feelings about Andre Smith’s handling of the Sugar Bowl were out the window Saturday, as Tide coach Nick Saban applauded the Cincinnati Bengals’ selection of Smith as the sixth pick in the first round of the NFL draft. Saban and Alabama offensive line coach Joe Pendry, both long-time NFL coaches, spent a lot of time talking with Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis and offensive line coach Paul Alexander prior to the draft, according to the story on the Bengals’ web site.

Trent Richardson wins Florida state weightlifting title…
Alabama signee Trent Richardson has been pretty successful in his career at Escambia High in Florida. He’s just never won a championship. That changed Friday. Richardson, the five-star running back prospect, won first-place the Class 2A state weightlifting competition. It’s his first title, though he’s going to play for the Crimson Tide in part because he hopes it won’t be his last. His Escambia team finished fourth.

Rashad Johnson, other Crimson Tide players, wait and hope in the NFL Draft
Rashad Johnson plans to be in tiny Sulligent to watch today’s NFL Draft with family members and close friends. And the Alabama safety won’t be surprised if he’s joined by, well, everyone else. The two-year captain is a fan favorite, and nowhere is that more true than his childhood home. Who is he to prevent anyone from watching the dream of a former walk-on come true? “I know everyone I see, anyway,” said Johnson, the All-American who had five interceptions last year. “We’re like a big family, and it’s all love. You can’t turn that kind of stuff away.”
