Smith: protect the QB like his mom
Carson Palmer has to like his newest offensive lineman’s attitude — to Andre Smith, the quarterback is like his mother, he’ll do anything to protect her/him. “I thought about that in high school, what’s going to make someone more angry than someone hitting your mom?” Smith said. “So that’s how I’ve thought about it.” As for how Palmer takes it? “I hope he doesn’t take offense,” Smith said.

Wilson heading to Atlanta, four others to sign as free agents
Former University of Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson is expected to sign a free-agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday. Parker, who was not selected in this weekend’s 74th annual NFL Draft, said he talked with a number of teams Sunday and said the consensus opinion was that the Falcons presented the best opportunity for him to land on a roster. Atlanta has at quarterback Matt Ryan, Chris Redman and D.J. Shockley. Suspended quarterback Michael Vick is expected to be traded after being re-instated. The Falcons did not select any quarterbacks in the draft.

Best of the rest:
