Former LSU cornerback Phelon Jones to transfer to Alabama
LSU cornerback Phelon Jones, a Mobile native, said he will leave Baton Rouge following the spring semester and play for the Crimson Tide. Jones started two games and made 15 tackles for the Tigers last season. The Jones family met with Saban on Monday to receive the final word. The No. 3 player on the 2006 Birmingham News Super Seniors list announced on April 3 that he was transferring from LSU because he wanted more playing time.
Tide To Play Michigan St. in 2016-17
The University of Alabama announced Monday it will play a football home and home series with Michigan State beginning in 2016. That game will be played at Bryant-Denny stadium before the Tide rolls into East Lansing the following year. Alabama and Michigan St. have never met on the gridiron before. It will also be a chance for Crimson tide head coach Nick Saban a chance to face another team he has led.
Kicker Cade Foster becomes Alabama’s 10th commitment
The Crimson Tide got another recruiting commitment. Meet kicker Cade Foster. He decided today that he’ll sign with Nick Saban’s team in 2010. Foster, a 6-foot-1, 215-pounder who also plays linebacker, chose UA over an offer from Washington. He also received interest from Colorado and UCLA.
Why all the interest in spring football games?
So in the 12 SEC spring games this year, four teams set school attendance records while at least two more had their second-best attendance figures ever. Somebody please explain this to me! This virus has even spread beyond the borders of the SEC. Ohio State set the national spring attendance record Saturday when 95,772 paid $5 apiece to get a seat inside the Horseshoe to watch the Buckeyes. That broke the record set by Alabama in 2007.
Finebaum: Saban on thin ice with fans?
When Nick Saban formally was introduced on Jan. 4, 2007, the national media rained down hard on Alabama’s parade. From ESPN’s Colin Cowherd saying Urban Meyer of Florida “will own Saban” to nicknames like Flipper, Slick Nick and Nick Satan. Others called him cheesy, one called him greasy and some called him a flat-out liar. All that did was make Alabama fans love him even more. Then, without warning, the world was seemingly turned upside down on its axis.
Best of the rest:
Roll Tide!
