Saban keeps attention on UA during Crimson Caravan
Saban kept the focus of his Thursday remarks on UA, even when asked about recruiting practices at other schools. At one point, he was asked about Auburn University’s “Tiger Prowl,” in which seven AU assistant coaches visit high school campuses in a limousine. “I really worry about what we need to do,” Saban said. “I don’t worry about what they do and, to be honest, I don’t know that much about it. We have a good program, a great organization and a great place for someone to launch a career. That’s what we concentrate on.”

Alabama football coaches join the Twitter crazy
At 9:23 a.m. on Wednesday, Sal Sunseri was hungry. The Alabama outside linebackers coach was recruiting in Maryland, and he hadn’t had breakfast. And how do we know this? The Alabama outside linebackers coach said so in a Twitter message. “Riding around the Baltimore Area from school to school,” Sunseri tweeted. “So hungry, but no time to stop and eat.”

Tide great Woodrow Lowe headed to College Football Hall of Fame
Alabama great Woodrow Lowe is among 16 players elected in this year’s class to the College Football Hall of Fame. Lowe, a Phenix City native who played at Alabama from 1972-75, was one of only two Tide players to be named All-American three times (Cornelius Bennett was the other), and holds the school record for most tackles in a season — 134, set as a sophomore in 1973. His 315 career stops are third all-time in school history. He was part of four SEC championship teams and one national championship squad.

Nick Saban talks about Alabama’s SEC West rings…
Did you know that Alabama received SEC West championship rings? “Well, rings to me are for winning something,” Saban said. “We did win our division. So, part of the bowl gift was that our players did get rings for that.” Apparently, as part of the allotment players are allowed to receive for their bowl gift, the team collectively can choose to spend some of that on rings (rather than iPods or whatever). And the players are part of the decision whether or not to get them.

The Bottom Line on Auburn Gimmicks
There is a fine line between a fool and a leader. Both are willing to do things that others may consider ridiculous, but only one knows why he’s doing them. Much has been said…and debated…about the limo fiasco. It did create a buzz. But let me go on record as saying, I think it was great. Chizik wanted to create separation between Auburn and Alabama on the recruiting trail, and separation is what he got.

Roll Tide!
