Alabama coach Nick Saban says hello from Destin, Fla. …
Nick Saban was asked, ‘Have you ever had a job where you felt the need to thrust yourself into the news to get noticed?’ he replied,
“Everybody has to have their own way of handling and dealing with things. Heaven knows I’ve made my share of mistakes in dealing with the media and everything else. Philosophically, we try to represent our organization in a first-class way and be the kind of role model we’d like our players to emulate, and do it with some honesty and integrity and loyalty to the game. I think that’s important. I’m a little old fashioned, but that’s my opinion.”

Let the fun begin at the SEC meetings
Kiffin met with the media prior to the meetings and showed his sense of humor. He cracked that he had requested an adjoining hotel room to Florida’s Urban Meyer. Meyer met briefly with the media and clearly wasn’t thrilled with having to sit in the same room for several hours with Kiffin or any of the coaches he goes head-to-head with on the field and the recruiting trail. Ole Miss’ Houston Nutt joked that he was going to get to the meeting room early “to get a good seat.”

As the 2009 season approaches few questions arise for the Crimson Tide: Will the offensive line get it together early? How will Greg McElroy fair in his first season as a starter? Will another receiver emerge opposite Julio to pose any kind of threat? Some of these questions will be answered in week one against Virginia Tech. If Bama can get past the Hokies they can very easily end up in Atlanta again undefeated. If not they still have what it takes to win the West. The season comes down to this: beat Virginia Tech and the Tide will once again battle the Gators in Atlanta to see who will play for the national title. If the Tide loses to Tech, look for a two- or three-loss season with the West coming down to the LSU game.
