Nico Johnson found not guilty of harrasment charge
Andalusia two-sport standout and Alabama football signee Nico Johnson was found not guilty of a misdemeanor harassment charge by Andalusia Municipal Court Judge Mike Jones Wednesday, according to a case action summary released by the court. Jones ruled a day after Johnson’s case went to court Tuesday. The charge stemmed from claims in a complaint of an incident in Andalusia on Sunday, May 3.

Alabama Crimson Tide QB Greg McElroy Has a Wide “Comfort” Zone
Greg remembers something Jim McElwain told John Parker Wilson to help him settle down last year and be consistent. It was to “play inside your comfort level.” McElroy says he watched Wilson follow that advice and have his best season last year as a senior. He says he learned a lot from that experience. He has proven he is comfortable coming in after serving his time on the bench, to not only light up the scoreboards, but even win a championship. “We have to defend against this guy in practice.” Kirby Smart told me tonight. “I can tell you right now we will be able to stretch opposing defenses better with Mac than we did with John Parker. His deep ball is ‘much’ better.”

Commissioner lays down the law in talk with coaches
Normally, Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive is perceived as a mild-mannered individual, but he was apparently moved to demonstrativeness, at least, as he addressed the SEC’s football coaches Wednesday at the league’s meetings at the Sandestin Beach Hilton. “I was surprised,” admitted Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt. The source of Slive’s energy was his displeasure with some of the recent sniping between the league’s football coaches. Most of the attention has focused on comments by the University of Tennessee’s new coach, Lane Kiffin, who has verbally jousted with Florida’s Urban Meyer and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier in recent weeks. “It won’t happen any more,” Nutt predicted.

Charley Hannah ASHOF inductee
Former University of Alabama and NFL standout Charley Hannah will be one of 10 people inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday. The Canton, Ga., native achieved success as an offensive and defensive lineman for the Crimson Tide and in the NFL where he played for 11 seasons before retiring in 1988. Hannah played for Paul “Bear” Bryant and began his career at UA as an offensive lineman but made the transition to the defensive line.

No more Top 25? It’s a possibility
The USA Today coaches poll has been presented with an interesting suggestion: Instead of ranking 25 teams each week, just rank 10 or 15. That was part of the recommendations made by Gallup World Poll, which was hired by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to scrutinize the poll, solicit improvements and maintain its integrity.
