Scarbinsky: Nick Saban supports Witt’s call to appeal NCAA sanctions
Look on the bright side. There are some good reasons for Alabama to appeal its NCAA sanctions from Bookgate, as the school has announced it will. Here’s perhaps the best reason of all: Nick Saban believes the school should appeal. It’s hard to imagine Alabama getting any of those wins back, but it doesn’t hurt to try to win them again. Just as it never hurts a university president to find himself on the same page as his football coach.
Alabama coach Nick Saban stops by and says ‘Hello’ … what did he say?
What do you need to spice up your summer? Maybe a visit by Alabama coach Nick Saban. Here is some of what he said:– Some of the freshmen, obviously, are going to be grayshirted for scholarship numbers reasons. Injuries may help decide that. Saban said, “We have a couple guys who are injured that we may hold back if they’re not ready to go by August.” — In general, Saban said the conditioning program has been positive. “Everybody else is out there, doing well, working hard,” he said. “Players have done a good job since they’ve been back. We haven’t had a lot of problems or issues in terms of work ethic, attitude, those things.” — There are no significant injuries to report. Saban mentioned that Julio Jones is doing well.
Trustees grant committee approval for three UA athletics projects, including a $1.3 million upgrade for the football complex
In addition to approving preliminary stages for UA’s new men’s basketball practice facility at Coleman Coliseum and extensive Foster Auditorium upgrade, trustees also green-lighted contruction work to begin on an approximately $1.3 million upgrade to the Mal Moore Athletic Facility, which houses the UA football team. The reason given for the football work: To “provide an enhanced atmosphere for student recruiting.”
UA President Robert Witt: “I believe we have the finest athletic director anywhere in the country”
University of Alabama President Robert Witt backed Mal Moore following today’s Board of Trustees meeting on campus, saying “I have 100 percent confidence” in the Crimson Tide’s athletics director. “I believe we have the finest athletic director anywhere in the country,” Witt said. The school president’s public approval for Moore comes amid fallout of last week’s NCAA textbook verdict, which placed UA on three years probation and forced the football program to vacate 21 football victories from 2005-07.
Roll Tide!
