Tide Tidbits – June 23, 2009

SEC Media Days just a month away
One month from today, SEC Media Days will kick off in the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover — the talk-fest that brings together league coaches, players and more than 500 media members. It figures to be a lot of fun as the league seeks a fourth straight national championship. But the talk will likely focus as much off the field as on it.

Analyzing Alabama Part One: The Offense
Alabama surprised everyone last year by taking apart a Clemson team that many had as a National Championship contender. From there, they just kept rolling. The Crimson Tide finished the regular season undefeated and with the top rank in the nation. Unfortunately for Alabama, with the suspension of Andre Smith over some suspect dealings with a possible agent, the Tide went on to lose the SEC Championship game against Florida and the forgettable Sugar Bowl against Utah. Alabama looks to the new season hoping to continue the success they had in last year’s regular season.

ANDREW BONE: Big weekend pulls big recruits for Alabama
The University of Alabama football program had a big weekend on campus with a 7-on-7 passing tournament and offensive/defensive line camp. Head coach Nick Saban pulled in three commitments away from all the football activities. Jay Williams, punter from Thomasville High School, and Deion Belue, cornerback from Deshler High School in Tuscumbia, joined the class of 2010, with the third commitment coming from Brent Calloway, athlete from Russellville High School. Calloway projects to rank as one of the top overall prospects in the state in the class of 2011.

Tide’s Future?
Nick Etheridge, a senior to-be at T.R. Miller High School, may or may not play for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team after graduation, but he has experienced what it would be like. “Going to the Alabama camp wasn’t just as big as it was just because it was Alabama, it was because the coach was Nick Saban and everyone with the right mind would love nothing more than to learn from Nick Saban and his staff,” Etheridge said. “The first and last day, coach Saban gave speeches to us about character, success, finishing the drills to the finish line and always open yourself up to learn more and do more and don’t get the mindset that you have learned all you can learn about the game.”.

My take on Alabama SportsNation results
Here’s a look at the SportsNation results from Alabama Day in College Football Live’s “50 States Tour” and my take on whether or not I agree: 1. Which team was the best in state history? SportsNation results (29,093 votes) – 1992 Alabama, 13-0, national championship: 37 percent

Roll Tide!
