Newsome eventually wants to return to Alabama
Ozzie Newsome will likely determine when his run as Ravens general manager ends. When it does, Newsome is looking to return to Alabama, where he grew up and played college football. “At some point I’m coming back home,” Newsome told the Tuscaloosa News during his ninth annual golf tournament there. “I’m coming home. And what I do when I get here, I don’t know. But I am coming home.” There has been speculation for years that Newsome would go back to become Alabama’s athletic director. The Crimson Tide’s current athletic director Mal Moore has come under scrutiny lately, which has caused some to wonder about Newsome’s return.
Misinformation hasn’t dented Saban’s success
As Alabama waited on the NCAA investigation into the school’s textbook distribution case, Saban said he was running into prospects who said they were being told how bad the NCAA punishment was going to be, information that Saban took as an attempt to get prospects away from Alabama. ”And every (prospect) that I had any kind of issue with over this, I’d say, ‘Well, where did you get that information?”’ Saban said. The player would respond, according to Saban, ”’Well, these media guys that call me tell me.’ I’d say, ‘Which ones?”’ In every case, Saban said, the prospect was getting the lowdown from a reporter from some team’s fan recruiting Web site.
Alabama may be winning in-state recruiting battle, but that’s only part of picture
The ink wasn’t even dry on the Elite 18 list in Sunday’s paper, the blog post only a few minutes old, before someone tallied the score on this year’s in-state recruiting battle between Alabama and Auburn. AL – 7, AU – 3. The game may seem to be nearly over with so many in-state prospects announcing their commitments early, but there are still prizes to be won elsewhere. And it is those prizes that will likely determine who “wins” the 2010 recruiting battle in February. Or will we have to wait until November to truly find out?
Press-Register Elite 18 recognizes top state football talent
Stanhope Elmore coach Jeff Foshee believes Mustang senior DeMarcus Milliner is about as close to a sure thing as you will find in a football player. “First of all, he’s got tremendous athletic ability — speed, quickness and he’s got good strength for his size,” Foshee said of the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back. “And he’s a smart player; he’s got a lot of football savvy. … He’s got a lot of things you can’t coach. “When you put all that together, you’ve got a great football player.”
Roll Tide!
