College Football List Week: 5 Toughest Coaching Jobs in the Country
1. Alabama – A fanbase that borders on psychotic. With no pro football, basketball or baseball teams, there’s no competition (other than some occasional ankle biting from Auburn). ‘Bama’s football coach, it could be argued, is the most powerful man in state, and if he’s doing well, he’ll never have to pay for anything – meals, hookers, cars, to have his basement finished, etc. This hero’s welcome for Nick Saban was disgusting. So is 92,000 for a spring football game. Anyone want to guess the number of college coaches who have appeared on the cover of Time Magazine since Bear Bryant did?

Five Reasons Why Saban Will Retire at Alabama
#5 It’s Alabama. Groan all you want at the supposed arrogance of that statement. However, the fact remains that Alabama is one of the top 5 most storied programs in the history of college football. It’s one of the most tradition rich schools in the land, boasting of 12 national titles and 21 conference championships. The Crimson Tide as a fan base as rabid for football as you can get. Saban has been given carte blanche authority to run one of the most prestigious football programs in the nation. The head coach at Alabama is the most recognizable (and possibly most powerful) position in the state. He’s a freakin’ rock star here, which suits the man’s considerable ego. Succinctly put, it’s a pretty sweet gig if you can get it. As Nick Saban himself has said, “There’s no better place to coach than Alabama.”

Ex-NFL MVP Alexander taking “tour for Jesus”
Shaun Alexander fills his days with a mix of the spiritual and physical. The former NFL MVP is on a nine-city tour speaking at churches, clubs and businesses — anywhere that will let him share his Christian faith. In the meantime, a different kind of faith carries him through a tough workout regimen: That an NFL team in need of a running back will summon him before the 2009 season is up. “I feel before the season is over, I think somebody will go down and they’ll say, ‘We want somebody who can score some touchdowns and make some things happen,‘“ Alexander said during a phone interview Thursday. “They’ll say, ‘Let’s go get Shaun.‘“

Evening with Coach Saban to support Castille Foundation
University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban is involved with another renovation project, only instead of Bryant-Denny Stadium this time it’s for a cause. “An Evening With Coach Nick Saban,” will be held in the third-floor ballroom of the Harbert Center in Birmingham on July 30. Proceeds from the event will support the Jeremiah Castille Foundation’s efforts to open a community development center, and create a educational mentoring program for inner-city youths. “He’s been very gracious,” former Alabama All-American Jeremiah Castille said. “He has Nick’s Kids Foundation. He has the same heart, wanting to invest in children.”

Roll Tide!
