Hightower, Jones taking bigger roles for Alabama
The white-hot days of summer conditioning continue on campuses around the country, including in Tuscaloosa. While special attention will be paid at Alabama to finding a new quarterback, filling holes in the offensive line and developing a free safety to anchor a defense that returns nine starters, it’s worth noting that Tide coach Nick Saban has said his star players should be even better this fall. Specifically, receiver Julio Jones and linebacker Dont’a Hightower will benefit from a full year in the system. Both of those players, who earned freshman All-America recognition, will have expanded roles as sophomores.
Lack of Buyout in Saban’s Contract Much Ado About Nothing
Recent word that the University of Alabama had begun work on a contract extension for Head Football Coach Nick Saban brought back discussion on the subject of there being no buyout in his current contract. The lack of a buyout was Saban’s idea and one that University officials had no problem with when the original deal was put in place. Saban has never been a fan of the buyout clause and Mal Moore knew that when he contacted him at his previous job with the Miami Dolphins. Expensive buyout clauses have become standard fare in the coaching world these days. The truth of the matter is though a buyout has never stopped a school from either hiring or firing a coach if they wanted to make it happen bad enough. To big-time college boosters, they’re really nothing more than a financial speed bump.
McElroy Is Ready To Bring Titles Back to Alabama Football
When the 5th of September finally rolls around, Greg McElroy will find himself in Atlanta, Georgia, which is a long way from his home of Southlake, Texas. Much like he did in high school, McElroy will find himself stepping into the shoes of a successful College quarterback. The Tide hopes that, much like high school, he will have the success necessary to lead his team to a championship. In high school, McElroy waited behind upperclassman Chase Daniels, knowing that he would eventually get his turn, and working to make the most of it when he did. When the time came, McElroy indeed made the most of his opportunity, breaking all of Daniels passing records on the way to taking Southlake Carroll to a high school Mythical National Championship.
Roll Tide!
