Talent Overload: Tide Have to Find Roster Spots for Top Recuiting Class
In recent years, Alabama fans have grown to be nearly as excited by their recruiting classes as they are by the Tide’s actual games. Who can blame them either? The last two years have produced top ranked recruiting classes, presenting a problem Alabama fans aren’t used to. It’s not uncommon on today’s squad to see talented players get buried on the depth chart. It’s a great problem to have for the team itself, but not such a great deal for a player buried so deep on the depth chart he has little or no hope of seeing playing time.
Big season openers nothing new for the Tide
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Virginia Tech Hokies will face off September 5 Atlanta, in the biggest opening game of the 2009 college football season. But it’s not the first time the Tide has started the season off with a bang. From 2008′s domination of Clemson, to the loss to the 1970 USC Trojans, tidesports.com takes a look back at some of Alabama’s biggest openers.

Bickering online fans … and how the financial have-nots try to compete
“There is absolutely a concerted effort out there,” radio host Paul Finebaum said. “I’ve spoken to various people who are either on the front line or the second line, and they are determined to get Alabama. I spoke to a man who (said) months ago that, ‘We will bring Alabama down.’ This is an Auburn guy, and he gave me chapter and verse on what they were doing, how they were doing it. He was convinced — I’ve never heard a man more convinced in his life — that they would be successful.”
SEC West predictions
On the eve of the SEC Media Days opening in Birmingham, here’s the as-promised look at how this scribe feels the league’s West Division will play out. One note: Don’t just scan the numbers beside each team. I see a three-way tie at the top. 1. Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss
SEC media days event to be bigger than ever
The SEC’s three-day extravaganza is scheduled Wednesday through Friday at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala., and league associate commissioner Charles Bloom said nearly 900 media members have been credentialed. The media total will be a record for the SEC and any other league for that matter, surpassing the 836 media members who attended the SEC function last July. “We want a large media days to where we can sell our message to as many media in as large of a setting as possible,” said Bloom, who has coordinated SEC media days since 1996. “When we have 900 people, no matter if they’re a daily or a weekly or on a 100,000-watt station or a 10,000-watt station, this is a way to get our word out.”
