SEC Media Days set to kick off
Don’t look for many answers as SEC Media Days kicks off today at the Winfrey Hotel in Hoover. But do look for questions. A lot of them. The league’s football coaches run the media gauntlet over the next three days. Commissioner Mike Slive will open the three-day program today at 12:30 p.m. The head coach and two players will represent each school.

Why the Alabama vs. Utah Outcome Could Be the Best Thing for the Tide
Alabama makes no excuses for the outcome of the game. You can make almost any euphemism and it might fit—Utah wanted it more, ‘Bama was outcoached—or make up your own. Alabama’s first half was an embarrassment to the team, the fans, and the coaches. For the fans, they will soon start getting over it as the Tide pounces on opponents early this season, provided they get by the daunting first game they must play. For the fans there was only lesson to be learned: Don’t be smug against a team that has this much potential. For the coaches, it was a lesson in humility. They prepared for a team that was 60 percent passing and 40 percent running. This year, when the end of the season starts coming around, there will be some recent hard knocks memories that the team will remember. Lessons learned the hard way just seem to stick longer and mean more.

Bengals release former Tide player Castille
In a bit of a surprise move, the Cincinnati Bengals released former University of Alabama defensive back Simeon Castille on Tuesday, after former Arkansas Center Jonathan Luigs, a fourth-round selection in this year’s draft, agreed to terms. Castille was the only college free-agent rookie to make Cincinnati’s 53-man roster last year. He played in seven games, with nine tackles and a pass defended.

Big decisions coming for Tide recruits
A lot of news has been surrounding the University of Alabama football program as of late from possible transfers, the last camp of the summer for prospects on the Tide’s campus, and several recruits announcing their college decisions this week. It may feel like Christmas in July by the end of the week. Corey Grant, Scout.com four-star running back from Opelika High School, plans to announce his decision Thursday at noon at a press conference at his school. He has trimmed his list of favorites to Alabama, Auburn and Florida. Another top player planning a press conference is Brian Vogler, the No. 1 tight end prospect in Georgia from Brookstone School in Columbus. His announcement is scheduled for noon Wednesday at his school.
