Tide on a Roll: Alabama Looking To Close Out Strong in Recruiting
Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban has spent a lot of time this offseason preaching to his team about finishing strong. Hopefully his recruiting staff has been paying attention. With 18 commitments, counting two resigns from last year, the Tide at most has 10 spots left with the new limit of 28 signee’s in the SEC. It’s entirely possible they may only sign 25 this fall. If that is the case, that would only leave seven more spots open. Saban has done a great job of “finishing” since arriving at the Capstone, so there is no reason to expect this year to be any different.

Nick Saban among most disliked people in sports
Michael Vick, the convicted dog fighting ringleader, is the most disliked person in sports, according to a survey by Encino, Calif.-based E-Poll, a market research firm. Results of the survey were reported by Forbes magazine. Among the top 10 were former Pistons guards Allen Iverson and Isiah Thomas, and Alabama football coach Nick Saban. Ironically, Saban in 2008 was named the “most powerful coach” in sports by Forbes magazine.

Bryant named No. 3 on all-time coaching list
Legendary late University of Alabama football coach Paul W. “Bear” Bryant has been named as the No. 3 all-time coach and the best-ever college football coach in a survey by The Sporting News. The publication polled a panel of 118 Hall of Famers, championship coaches and other experts. Former UA head football coaches Ray Perkins, Mike DuBose and Bill Curry, and former UA basketball coach C.M. Newton were part of the panel. Bryant finished third behind former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden and late Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi. NBA coach Phil Jackson, former Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula and Boston Celtics Legend Red Auerbach finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Ranking the SEC… Quarterbacks
7. ALABAMA: John Parker Wilson is gone and Greg McElroy is in. McElroy, a junior, has the experience within the program but little to no seasoning in competitive situations. Alabama coach Nick Saban praised McElroy for his instincts and good decisions. If all McElroy does is play sound fundamental football, it will go a long way for the Crimson Tide. Mobility might be the biggest key with Andre Smith and Antoine Caldwell no longer manning the offensive line. If it’s necessary to make plays on the run, look out for redshirt freshman Star Jackson, who’s waiting in the wings behind McElroy. Whomever lines up under center has the luxury of throwing to Julio Jones, the Crimson Tide’s singularly gifted wide receiver. Jones makes any QB look better.

ALL-TIME ALL-TIDE: The team
With practice just around the corner and the SEC Media Days behind us, football season is basically upon us. Over the past few weeks to break up the slow offseason, we asked for our readers to select the greatest Alabama players position-by-position. You voted … you discussed … and here are the results. Here is your first-team All-Time All-Tide.
