A BIG FINISH
The two-time All-American, potential NFL star and the player currently keeping Texas coaches up at night shuffled through the Alabama football complex Monday wearing shorts with cartoon images of Superman. “My back-to-school shorts,” Terrence Cody explained with a laugh. “I’ve been a Marvel (Comics) fan, man, since I opened my eyes. I love super heroes. I love the (Incredible) Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man.” He’s listed at 365 pounds. Both literally and in the minds of many Alabama fans, that may not be big enough. In college football, there is only one Mount Cody. The nickname and its unique owner have been a symbol of the rapid rebirth of Alabama’s football program. In reality, the graduate of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is still just a big kid, but he’s also become his own kind of super hero. Feats are legendary. He can indeed dunk a basketball. Others say he’s capable of doing a somersault, and the excitable Cody himself once said he’d like to try a “Lambeau Leap” into the crowd if he scored a touchdown. [More]
Reamer: Alabama nation a ‘prideful place’
The number of Alabama natives on the University of Alabama roster isn’t as big as it once was, and those who grew up die-hard Alabama fans is even a bit smaller. Cory Reamer is one of them. The senior linebacker from Hoover has been through plenty in his time at UA: a losing season, two head coaches, a serious knee injury and a position change. So his perspective on the Crimson Tide’s berth in the national title game against Texas — particularly as a childhood UA fan — is a bit more enhanced. “The Alabama nation, the Alabama family, it’s a prideful place,” Reamer said. “It’s been a while since we’ve had this kind of success. Even the SEC championship, it’s been a while for that. You can tell how excited everybody is about that. [More]
Rogers relishes time with Tide
It may not have turned out like he envisioned, but Chris Rogers isn’t complaining. The Alabama senior, who grew up in Montgomery before moving to Lakeland, Fla., after the eighth grade, was a prized recruit when he signed in 2005. He had 10 interceptions as a high school junior in 2003, catching the eye of several college recruiters. He finished with 22 career interceptions at Evangel Christian and talked of how he would make an immediate impact at Alabama for then head coach Mike Shula. Instead, Rogers had trouble adjusting that first year and was redshirted. “I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I have no regrets at all, coming to the University of Alabama,” he said. “I told myself the day I signed I’m going to give my all and if I give my all, let the chips fall where they fall. Recruiting: Damian Swann
If you have not yet heard about 2011 standout Damian Swann, prepare yourself because this is a player that will soon have all Alabama recruiting fans talking. Swann, a 6 foot 1, 180 pound athlete from Grady High School in Georgia boasts a 33 inch vertical and a forty time in the 4.46 range. Swann is easily one of the nation’s top athletes.”Alabama, they are my number one school,” the standout athlete told Crimson Confidential. “Bama has it going on right now. Bama gets guys ready to play in the league, especially with Coach Saban there and all. ” [More]
Crimson Tide find it impossible to ignore what coach Nick Saban has called ‘clutter’ — talk about the national championship game
No matter how much it’s discouraged, a few Alabama football players said it is impossible to ignore what’s on the line when the Tide meets Texas on Jan. 7. Coach Nick Saban has done his best talking with the team and got agitated with reporters for focusing too much on the championship aspect of the game. Still, it exists and some thoughts are impossible to ignore. “It’s the biggest game any of us have ever played in,” senior offensive lineman Mike Johnson said. “Last year, after the SEC Championship it was kind of a let down. You kind of had people dragging though the Sugar Bowl. We weren’t really playing for anything but the Sugar Bowl title. This year, we have so much more to play for.” [More]
