BCS title game: Tide all business this trip
Alabama will hold its final practice of 2009 today before boarding two charter jets in Birmingham on Friday morning to leave for the West Coast and a BCS National Championship Game showdown with second-ranked Texas on Jan. 7. The top-ranked Tide practiced for the fourth consecutive day since the Christmas break, and head coach Nick Saban was pleased with his team’s focus and intensity after rain drove the team into the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility on Wednesday afternoon. “We practiced really well today,” Saban said. “We had to go inside today. We feel very fortunate that we’ve been able to go outside as much as we have been able to go out.” The team will resume practicing Saturday in Pasadena. “I think the whole trip is set up a little bit differently,” Saban said. “I don’t think there are a lot of activities for the players on the trip. It is a bowl trip, but it is a business trip.” [More]

Tyde, Saban Ready For BCS Title Game
If you think your family is made up of the biggest Alabama Crimson Tide fans in the Valley.. you may want to ask yourself this question : Would I name both of my children after the team? Tim and Hannah Witt made headlines in 2007 when they named their son “Saban”. They already had one other son, named “Tyde”. We actually introduced you to the family with young Saban was first born. The Witts say they don’t plan on having any more children. They told us if they had had a girl, they were considering naming her Bama. [More]

Tight end Colin Peek has come up big in clutch situations this season
Colin Peek is the first to admit his senior season won’t be complete without achieving a national championship with a win against Texas in Pasadena, Calif., next week. But for the University of Alabama tight end, it might have been hard to write a better ending to the senior’s final regular season than the one that unfolded. A momentum-turning touchdown catch at Auburn in the only Iron Bowl he ever had a chance to play in. A game-clinching touchdown catch against Florida in his only game against the defending national champion Gators, and a Sports Illustrated cover photo of the catch for a resounding historical keepsake. McElroy hopes for better practice
Ask Nick Saban, and he’ll say practice has gone pretty well in the three days since working past the “Christmas hangover.” Quarterback Greg McElroy, however, is far less than satisfied. With just one practice left before flying to the Los Angeles area Friday, the Tide senior is hoping for a better effort. “It feels like we’ve had a couple sloppy practices,” McElroy said. “Well, maybe not so much sloppy, but the energy level and the monotony of practice is starting to wear on people. But, I think once we get out to California, it will obviously be a new setting and we’ll be a little bit closer to game time and people will tighten up a little bit. [More]

Crimson Tide looks good as trip for BCS national title game nears
The day after winning the SEC championship game, Alabama coach Nick Saban stood before his team with a marker and drew a line on a board. He told players, “There’s 32 days until we play in the national championship game. And how every one of you guys manage that is going to determine how well you play. Not just practice, it’s how well you take care of yourself, how well you rest, the kind of shape you stay in, how you work out between now and then, how you prepare yourself mentally to play in the game.” Now that the Jan. 7 BCS national title game against Texas is one week away, how has Alabama’s team fared? “So far, I think everybody’s responded that this is important to them,” Saban said, “and they’re looking forward to the opportunity that they’ve created for themselves in this game.” It’s almost time. Recruiting: Alabama commits and targets working at high school All-Star games
It’s All-Star time for prep football seniors, and Alabama will be well represented in the coming days. Cornerback DeMarcus Milliner, quarterback Phillip Sims, defensive end Alfy Hill, offensive lineman Chad Lindsay, tight end Brian Vogler and defensive end Adrian Hubbard will comprise the contingent of Alabama commitments at Saturday’s Under Armour All-Star Game in Florida. In addition, several UA targets will be there, such as defensive back John Fulton, defensive end William Gholston, offensive lineman James Stone and receiver Chris Dunkley, a big-time prospect who was long considered a Florida lean before the past week’s situation involving Urban Meyer and is now seriously considering Alabama.
