The Alabama Senate unanimously adopted a resolution Tuesday recognizing the University of Alabama national championship football team, and said head football Coach Nick Saban should be invited to accept. The 35-member Senate commended the Crimson Tide for earning the 2009 BCS National Championship with a 37-21 win over the University of Texas on Jan. 7. Looking Ahead to College Football 2010 in the SEC West: Buy, Hold, or Sell
Alabama: Buy What’s not to like? Alabama is the reigning national champion, was a perfect 14-0 in 2009, and has lost two games in two years and that was to the BCS National Champions and the No. 2 team (Utah) in the nation in 2008. The Crimson Tide’s coaching staff is pretty much staying intact, and Alabama is returning the biggest part of the national championship team. The Tide will return eight starters on offense and six starters on Alabama’s top-ranked defense from their 2010 BCS National Championship team. Not to worry, though, because Alabama has reached the stage of being able to just reload. [More]
Recruiting: Alabama tries to snare former UT commitment Ambles
One of the top receiver prospects in the Southeast is considering stepping away from a commitment to Tennessee, and Alabama is one of the schools hoping to lure him away from Knoxville. Markeith Ambles (6-2, 182), the seventh-rated receiver prospect in the country according to Rivals.com, visited North Carolina last weekend and met with coaches from two SEC schools on Monday — Alabama and LSU. Alabama head coach Nick Saban and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart visited Ambles at his McDonough, Ga., home on Monday night. [More]
The most powerful man you don’t know
No matter who raised the trophy after the BCS national championship game, Jimmy Sexton won. Sexton may be the most powerful agent in college football. Yet he never calls press conferences, seldom agrees to interviews and most fans would be hard-pressed to come up with his name when asked to identify movers and shakers in the sports world. Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Texas defensive coordinator and coach designate Will Muschamp are Sexton’s clients. Sexton’s corral of college coaches earned in the neighborhood of $50 million in bowl payouts for their schools. He has four coaches each from the SEC and ACC. Another client, Tommy Tuberville recently was named the new head coach at Texas Tech job. [More]
Ranking the SEC coaches
Now that the coaching situation seems settled in the SEC it seemed like a good time to rank the coaches based on 2009 performance. 1. Nick Saban—The Alabama Crimson Tide have the best coach in college football. This season Saban dethroned Urban Meyer, won the SEC Championship and national championship. Saban stands astride the world like a Colossus. Well, maybe a diminutive one, but still nobody dominates college football today like Nick Saban. [More]
