2010 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Kareem Jackson
Kareem Jackson (Alabama) Height: 5-11 Weight: 192 40 Time: 4.45 The former Crimson Tide corner is entering the draft prematurely, much to the chagrin of coach Nick Saban. Some would say Saban’s objections stem from a true desire to see one of his defensemen grow as a player. I think he’s just upset that he’s losing two of the best cornerbacks in the NCAA: Jackson, and his fellow teammate Javier Arenas. Jackson is a player who should do very well in the NFL. He excels at press man coverage and, among other things, has better ball skills than most of the cornerbacks in this year’s class. In his 40 games at Alabama, Jackson amassed 159 tackles, 34 defended passes, five interceptions, two blocked kicks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Jackson is very good at the line, using his hands and long arms to jam the wide out at the line and confuse the timing of the quarterback. Once the receiver gets off the line, he has the speed to stay close and get in between the ball and the player. [More]

ANDREW BONE: Recruiting Q&A part ll
Q: With Texas having about 12 quick commitments, how does this happen? How many early verbals do you think we will have? Who are some that will pull an early trigger? Andrew Bone: It’s something coach Mack Brown has been able to do for a long time. I don’t expect Alabama to have a big rush of commitments. Very selective with a small class. [More]

2010 Alabama Football Schedule Grossly Unfair: Where Does the SEC Stand?
Just for the record, I don’t have a dog in this hunt. Someone commenting on a story I had recently written brought my attention to something that was rather shocking. In fact, it was so surprising to me that I simply didn’t believe it at first! What was the far-fetched information he had written about? He had mentioned Alabama will play six SEC games in 2010 against opponents who have a bye week prior to the game against the Crimson Tide. Six teams with bye weeks before the Alabama game? It simply couldn’t be true! I pulled up every 2010 football schedule for all SEC teams and began a careful research of each team’s schedule. I checked each team carefully. Then I double checked. couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was true! Six teams somehow were able to juggle their schedules to create a bye week the week before taking on Alabama. You may love or hate the Crimson Tide, but anyone who is a fan of college football should be outraged with the SEC for allowing such blatant unfairness. [More]

Ex-Tide tackle encourages parents, kids to focus on school
At 350 pounds, Anthony Bryant is an imposing sight inside an elementary school. But the former University of Alabama defensive tackle was anything but intimidating Friday when he spoke to students at Crestmont Elementary School in Northport about everything from excelling in academics to listening to their parents. Bryant spoke as part of an initiative by All-Pro Dads and iMoms, national organizations with local chapters that encourage more parental involvement in youth education. Bryant said he has spoken in 10 to 15 schools over a five-year NFL career, but has more experience working with troubled youth. “It’s important to go out and speak to kids and influence them about doing right. I didn’t have anyone come speak to me when I was coming up. … I’ve spoken more probably to juvenile (halls) than elementary schools,” Bryant said. [More]
