Top 10 SEC Games of 2010
Well it may only be March, but before I get March Madness I will get to this story, the top SEC Games of 2010. The SEC has numerous rivalry games and just great games. Even the best SEC team might fall to another SEC team who is struggling at the time. The team who wins the SEC might not be the best in the conference. So many games will prove to be great, and as long as the refs don’t mess with the game, the team that wins will be the better team that day. Whether it’s the Cocktail Party or just Florida and Alabama mixing it up, the SEC should prove to have some great games. [More]
Huddle up for Spring-opoly
It seems like just yesterday that Nick Saban was nearly knocked unconscious by a bucket of Gatorade as his Alabama Crimson Tide captured the BCS national championship with a victory over the Texas Longhorns. But college football teams across the country are already hitting the practice fields for spring workouts. So just roll the dice, and see which spring football practice storyline will play out at your favorite school. [More]
Alabama’s more popular than Auburn, or so says U.S. News & World Report
Which is more popular among students, the University of Alabama or Auburn University? U.S. News & World report has crunched the numbers and says it’s Alabama by about 13 points. The new U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on a university’s “yield.” Yield is the percentage of students who are accepted to the university and actually wind up attending. The theory: Universities people really want to go to, like Harvard, are going to be accepted by just about everyone the university offers a place. Colleges and universities with low yields, on the other hand, are seen as “safety” schools, ones people apply to in case they aren’t accepted by the institution they really want to attend. In the rankings, released Friday, the University of Alabama ranks above such places as the University of Arkansas and Florida State University with an overall yield of 46 percent. Auburn University, on the other hand, had a yield of 33 percent. That put Auburn above Pepperdine, Howard, Northwestern and others, but below Wake Forest, Southern Methodist, William and Mary and a host of others. Perhaps because of its relatively low yield, Auburn accepted a higher percentage of its applicants, saying yes 71 percent of the time. The more popular Alabama said yes 60 percent of the time. [More]
Alabama’s defense looks to reload up front
Although there might not be as many holes to fill as the secondary, the defensive line will be another area that’s closely monitored this spring. Starters Terrence Cody, Brandon Deaderick and Lorenzo Washington are all gone, but Alabama rotated its defensive linemen throughout the season a year ago. Noseguard Josh Chapman and ends Marcell Dareus and Luther Davis have all played. Dareus is a budding star. He led the Crimson Tide in sacks last season and was the Defensive MVP of the BCS National Championship Game. He’s poised to become one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the SEC next season. The numbers are there. And while there might not be a space-eater like Cody on campus, if Murphy develops the way most think he will, the Crimson Tide will again be imposing up front defensively.
