It’s no secret in college football today: make it through the SEC season with a single loss (maybe two), and you’re going to a BCS bowl. Make it through the SEC season with a single loss (or better) and win the SEC Championship and you’ll be playing for the BCS crown. Win in the SEC and you’re going to a BCS Bowl; it’s not just a trend or coincidence, it’s because you’ve beaten the “best.” I, being the stat guy and sports historian, took a deeper look at this, however, and found another interesting trend rears its head when we look at the coaches of these BCS invitees from the SEC; particularly those in their “sophomore” coaching season. Position change for Michael Bowman?
With the start of spring practice just around the corner, it should come as no surprise that the rumor mill is slowly starting to churn. The rumor du jour involves rising redshirt freshman receiver Michael Bowman, claiming that Bowman will be either permanently moved to tight end this spring, or at least tried there situationally at some point in the coming weeks. Is there any validity to this rumor? Well, apparently it stems from a quote that Devin Bowman — Michael’s younger brother, a recruit in the 2011 class, and a prospect we are actively recruiting — recently made to one of the recruiting services. Pick #7: Kansas City Chiefs (via Cleveland) – Rolando McClain ILB (Alabama) Kansas City gets the player that they wanted at number five and get an extra third rounder. McClain is a perfect fit for Kansas City because they run the same 3-4 system that Nick Saban installed at Alabama.
