Tom Izzo took Nick Saban’s Advice

Last week, as Michigan State fans planted signs of support all over campus, and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert dangled a $30-million offer, and media and Internet reports clamored loudly for a decision, Izzo made his choice to stay. The verdict came late on a Tuesday, with school president Lou Anna Simon and athletic director Mark Hollis welcoming Izzo back with justifiable plaudits, tinged with palpable relief. Izzo commented, “The thing that motivates me is, we gotta figure out a way to do it even better, and get to where I want and not apologize about it. I want to take this program even higher, get that second national title, the third for the school. I’ve talked about making Michigan State the best job in America and now I’m gonna walk my talk and try to make it the best. (Former MSU and current Alabama football coach) Nick Saban said something interesting to me during this thing: ‘You know, sometimes instead of trying to go to another job, take the job you have and make it better.’” [More]

Alabama contest will be Penn State’s most physical game of season

User porterhog began discussion on the much-anticipated game with a playful taunt aimed at the SEC faithful, ” Is Alabama like the rest of the SEC teams: fast and don’t like to hit?” In today’s sport comment Alabama supporter champions92 quickly disabuses porterhog of that notion, writing: You have to be kidding. The Alabama game will without a doubt be PSU most physical game of the year. It will take the Lions about two weeks to recover. Have you ever seen Alabama play the likes of LSU, UF, Texas, Auburn? Brutal games to say the least. Yes, they are very fast and hit very hard. It’s called smash-mouth football down here. So in short: Alabama hit hard, are quick, wily, full of talent and their fans are a classy bunch. [More]
