Alabama Tops In The SEC

Posted by BamaFootball4Life | Jun 27, 2010 | -

Every summer, I rate the programs of the SEC based on a number of criteria including head coach, coaching staffs, facilities, fan support, revenue, recruiting and some other intangibles. One thing that makes this difficult is the seventh- or eighth-place teams probably rank in the top 35 in America. That’s how good the SEC is and how strong the commitments are in this conference. 1. Alabama: Nick Saban has it going. This ranking is not based only on last year’s national title and the expected preseason ranking, but on everything that is Alabama football right now. There is stability in the program for the first time since Gene Stallings was the coach. There is nothing lacking in this program right now. Incredible facilities and the most passionate fan base in college football. [More]

The Tide’s defining moment was 2009 Sugar Bowl

Kyle Whittingham knew beating the University of Alabama in the Sugar Bowl was a big deal, but the head coach of the Utah Utes didn’t grasp at the time just how big. No one did. Now, nearly 18 months since Utah upset the Crimson Tide in New Orleans on Jan. 2, 2009, the reverberations of what seemed at the time to be just another bowl upset continue to resonate, playing an important part in changing the college football landscape. The Crimson Tide has not lost since, coming off that defeat to win 14 straight games to claim its 13th national championship. And Utah parlayed a greatly-enhanced reputation into a spot in the expanded Pac-10, joining a Bowl Championship Series conference less than two weeks ago to suddenly become a player on the national scene. Alabama vs. Auburn recruiting heats up

Four-star Alabama commitment LaMichael Fanning is on the move again, transferring from Auburn High to Harris County (Ga.) — the school he originally enrolled in as a freshman. The object of attention from both Alabama’s Nick Saban and Auburn’s Gene Chizik, Fanning is leaving amidst rumors that he was being harassed by students and the community for choosing to attend rival Alabama. AHS head coach Tim Carter denied that was the reason for his relocation. The 6-6, 275-pound defensive end played at Harris County as a freshman before going to Callaway (Ga.) for his sophomore season and Auburn during his junior year. All three high schools are within about 55 miles of each other. [More]

Recruiting: Top players left on Bama’s board

Nick Saban and company continue killing the recruiting trail this year. It’s hard to differentiate the difference in recruiting before winning a national championship. Really, Nick Saban and company have always been great on the recruiting trail. It’s hard to wonder how much the title win helped an already recruiting savvy bunch. What is likely the bigger momentum from the title is the ability to recruit farther away from the state of Alabama with success. Saban and company have always done well in state and bordering states, but this year they are really taking their game up a notch. With 14 dynamic playmakers already on board for 2011, recruiting has hit almost a standstill for Tide fans. The class is at least two-thirds full, and most of the remaining prospects are elite recruits not in any position to decide soon. The biggest drive for these players to commit is the drive not to miss an open spot on the roster and be forced to look elsewhere. Expect recruiting to pick back up maybe around late August or September with several players looking to make decisions. [More]
