As if it weren’t already a highly intense staff with Coaches Saban, Smart, Sunseri, Cochran, et al, and now they’ve gone and added Pruitt. Without a doubt, there is not another staff as knowledgeable and passionate about football anywhere in college football. If anyone differs with that opinion, I’d more than like to hear an intelligent rebuttal. It’s my hope that he (Pruitt) can take some of the pressure off Coach Saban. I think Nick needs to keep a close eye on special teams this year. Without STs functioning properly it puts an awful burden on both the offense and defense. [More]
Along with the many publications that are previewing the 2010 college football season and predicting a top 25 or top ten or top one, there are also pre-season All-America teams and early watch lists for awards. Five Alabama players did qualify for those lists, as revealed by the Football Writers Association of America. Three Crimson Tide players represented Alabama on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Preseason Watch List, including safety Mark Barron, defensive lineman Marcell Dareus and linebacker Dont’a Hightower. Offensive linemen James Carpenter and Barrett Jones were selected to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List. [More]
It’s not exactly news that fans of different sports teams hate each other’s guts, but usually those teams play in the same league. The continuing war of words between Miami DolFans and Alabama’s Crimson Tide nation is a bit absurd considering one team is professional and the other is college and the feud will never be settled on the grid iron. It doesn’t make it any less fun to bash ‘em though! The simmering hate was reignited recently when Saban gave an interview as NBCMiami put it “Nick Saban Is Sorry His Honesty and Integrity Upset You, Miami.” DolFans did not take this as an apology. “Why are you even quoting this clown? He left in the middle of the night. Leave him to his sycophants in Tuscaloosa.” The Crimson Tide bloggeratti obviously can not stand for this. Roll Bama Roll in a post entitled, “Dear Miami, Get Over It” basically tells DolFans to quit there moaning three and a half years after the fact. [More]
Talked to a friend recently. He told me Nick Saban is at Alabama for the long haul because he believes Saban is motivated and driven to put himself on par with Bear Bryant at Alabama. I, too, believe Tuscaloosa is Saban’s final coaching stop, and there’s no question he’s motivated and driven. But is equality with the Bear really something he’s pursuing? Who knows. But fact is, Saban will never attain Bryant’s status. I know the Bear’s been gone for a while, but lest anyone forget, the larger-than-life figure won six, yes six, national championships at Alabama and 13 SEC titles. His record at Alabama was 232-46-9, a winning percentage of .824. More intriguing, now that Saban has a national title at Alabama, is who is currently and who will be Alabama’s No. 2 coach in the modern era (from Bryant to today). Right now, it’s a two-person contest between Saban and Gene Stallings. [More]
