The University of Alabama plans to extend Mal Moore’s term as director of athletics beyond the term of his current contract, which runs for about another year. UA President Robert Witt told The Tuscaloosa News on Friday that the school intends to keep Moore in place. “Mal Moore’s current contract goes through 2011,” Witt said. “I do not see any possibility at all of us not extending that contract beyond its completion.” Moore, 70, received an extension in 2008 that bumped his annual salary by $25,000, to $425,000. He is in the last year of the four-year extension. Witt gave Moore a ringing endorsement when discussing the athletic director’s accomplishments since being hired to the post in November 1999. “I can’t say how impressed I am with the job Mal Moore has done,” Witt said. “I do not believe he has received nearly the recognition he should if you look at Alabama athletics today and the success of so many of our teams. He’s patient – not only did he have to answer many of the same questions several times, but he has waited his turn to become a starter. [More]
