
The SEC meetings are right around the corner so this is the perfect time to start breaking down the nation’s top conference in my yearly SEC preview. The SEC continues to dominate the college football landscape on the field, in recruiting and in media attention. Rumors have been swirling that Clowney has a top two schools of South Carolina and Alabama. On Sunday afternoon before the High School Sports Report photo shoot, the South Pointe standout confirmed the speculation. “Yeah, it’s true,” Clowney said. “Alabama and South Carolina are up there, but they’re both about the same right now.” He made a trip to Alabama several weeks ago and that trip made a positive impression on him. Clowney spent time with head coach Nick Saban, who wasn’t shy about promoting his accomplishments.“ Coach Saban told me he is one of the best coaches around and he can make me be successful,” Clowney said. “He said if I came there to be ready to win championships.” [More]
Alabama’s ascension back atop the college football landscape has coincided with a return to prominence in recruiting players from the Mobile area. At the end of spring practice, no fewer than eight players from in and around the Port City were featured in Alabama’s two-deep rosters. [More]
The SEC has swallowed college football. That’s the unmistakable message from the past four years as SEC Media Days approach Wednesday. Who knew the SEC would own all of the national championships, too? Four straight national championships in football, a record run for any conference since The Associated Press poll started in 1936, and another preseason No. 1 ranking likely to start 2010. Alabama.
