Tide expected to be back in Atlanta

Even with the inequities in scheduling, Alabama should still rule the roost in the SEC West of the spectrum. The Crimson Tide is not only facing the scheduling issue, but also replacing nearly an entire defense. The key will be if Alabama’s potent offense can post enough TDs on the board while the defense learns Saban’s Defense 101. I believe it can. The schedule, though, is not easy, with games in September against Penn State and Arkansas, a gauntlet in October featuring road trips to Tennessee and South Carolina, and that little ol’ game against Florida. Will the Tide have enough left for November at LSU and the Iron Bowl? Even though the Tide will have a lot to deal with I still think they will three-peat as Western Division Champions. Picture that energy focused on an SEC head coach. In good times, such interest can transform the coach into a god and fuel expectations. Nick Saban will soon have a statue of himself after three years at Alabama, thanks to the Crimson Tide’s national championship last season. In bad times, the passion can create intense negative scrutiny in a conference where, believe it or not, somebody does have to lose. Tommy Tuberville once compared being an SEC coach to being president. “You age pretty quick in this league because you have no holidays,” Tuberville said in 2008.
