Two Choose To Roll With The Tide

Posted by | Feb 15, 2011 | -

Below are some of the top Tide football stories for today published by various organizations:

You can’t get a better offer than Alabama

By Chip Towers, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Listening to Kenyan Drake explain his commitment to Alabama Monday night was like hearing a Crimson Tide coach offer a recruiting pitch. “In my eyes, you can’t get a better offer than Alabama,” said Drake, a 6-0, 188-pound running back from Hillgrove High in Powder Springs. “They offer you top-tier academics and top-tier athletics. It’s just, like, what else can you get from a college? I decided, why wait when I already have a great feeling about Alabama?” Drake projects as one of the top running back prospects — if not THE top running back — in the state of Georgia for the Class of 2012. Both Georgia and Georgia Tech are likely feeling jilted. The Yellow Jackets, in particular, seemed well-positioned to win the recruiting battle. “I stand by the word ‘commitment,’” Drake said. “I actually talked to Coach Saban about that tonight and he gave me the P’s and Q’s of the word commitment. But once I commit somewhere I stand behind it. That’s just how I was raised and what I believe in. I feel like my commit is a solid one.” [More]

Tyler Hayes commits as part of the 2012 class

By Izzy Gould, AL.com
Tyler Hayes verbally committed Monday to Alabama. The 6-foot-3, 220 linebacker back from Thomasville informed Alabama assistant Jeremy Pruitt of his decision. He had not yet spoken with Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban or his high school coach, Jack Hankins. It was the second verbal commitment Alabama scooped up Monday. Pruitt told Hayes he made his day with the news. Hayes, who amassed more than 700 rushing yards rushing with five touchdowns and was the top-three tackler for Class 4A state champions, received an offer from Alabama during a visit last month during the Tide’s junior day. It was Hayes’ first visit to the campus. Hayes also had an offer from Auburn. [More]

Clowney Picks South Carolina and Takes a Shot at Saban

Now that Jadeveon Clowney has officially signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks, Fox Sports’ Thayer Evans has published an excellent profile of the final weeks of the Rock Hill star’s recruitment. In it we learn that Clowney would’ve committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide if he wouldn’t have had to play out of position, Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney is a startingly sweet man, and Nick Saban talks a lot. Saban is also short, “like five-foot-five” according to our subject. Clowney has listed friends and family as his primary reasons for picking Carolina over Alabama, though in this story he also specifically mentions the female population from each school in separate anecdotes. Clowney describes South Carolina’s female students as being “all on you,” while he insists he didn’t have anything to do with Clemson’s ladies. [More]

Saban Statue To Be Unveiled At 2011 A-Day Game

By Jason Kirk, SB Nation
The Alabama Crimson Tide will reveal a very not-to-scale statue of coach Nick Saban at their annual A-Day Game. Saban will be the fifth Alabama head coach to see his likeness raised in Bryant-Denny Stadium’s Walk of Champions. If you’re just joining us, they do this for every coach who brings a national title to Bama, meaning they have another 10 or 20 statues in the queue. [More]
